ArpithaKodiveri is a legal researcher focusing on issues of environmental justice. A Hans Kelsen Fellow at the European University Institute, she studies the intersection of consent, business and human rights in India. She was previously a senior research associate at the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment. She holds a Bachelor's in Law from ILS Pune, and completed her L.L.M. in Environmental Law from the UC Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law as a Fulbright Scholar.
At the Naropa Fellowship, Arpitha taught the course, 'An Introduction to Business, Human Rights and the Environment'. With an effective set of tools to address human rights and environmental issues in entrepreneurial endeavors, she drew examples from across the Himalayas to carve a path for future businesses in the region. The challenge that young entrepreneurs face today is of redefining the role of businesses that are sensitive to the demands of justice, livelihood, and cultural expectations of the context within which they operate. Our Fellows were mindfully exposed to approaches that will help them tackle this challenge while responding to the needs of their regional context.
